So this week off from school has been fairly productive, I suppose. More or less. I could have always gotten more work done. (And now I'm second-guessing the way I phrased that because my British mother always tells me that "gotten" is a filthy, clumsy Americanism and that I shouldn't use it. >_> BUT IT JUST COMES OUT NATURALLY THAT WAY WHAT SHOULD I SAY INSTEAD, "I HAVE BEEN"?)

ANYWAY so I reached 10,000 words in my thesis! \o/ Woo! I'm sitting at 10,593 words right now, or 38 pages. It still needs a crapload of editing, but things are slowly coming together.

I also got a decent amount of reading done this week, as might be expected. I'm about a week's in advance of my readings, which means that I can spend the coming week before and after class ALSO working on research papers.

Anyway, I had a lot of fun a few days ago posting that mocking Twilight picspam, so I thought I'd do another one with all of the lovely GIFs I've picked up recently! (And this time, I swear, I'll figure out lj-cuts properly and make sure it doesn't overwhelm your friendslists. THIS TIME FOR SURE.

How about I make this one AWESOMENESS-themed? (Note: as illustrated immediately below, a bunch of these will be Harry Potter themed, simply because of the inherent awesomeness of the books, but also because I did indeed pick up a lot of these from the comments of Mark Reads Harry Potter, which you should read too.

Let us begin!

Awesome Snape is Awesome.

I'm sad that this one isn't bigger. There was a meme going around a while back with that one shot of Obi Wan Kenobi making that gesture and then cutting to a clip of someone/something falling down. This one just made it more awesome. ALSO, if you haven't ever heard of fainting goats, you need to see this short explanatory video. Actual goat species. Actual behaviour. WHY MUST THEY BE SO FUNNY??

Monty Python will never stop being hilarious. NOBODY EXPECTS THE SPANISH INQUISITION. NOBODY.

Anyway, so my original intention was to put a whole lot more Harry Potter ones in this post... but I've decided to make an entirely separate post dedicated exclusively to the awesomeness of Harry Potter.

I know.

"Gotten" is not an Americanism! Shakespeare used it!

And anyway, Americans have come up with many lovely words, including "roundabout". SO THERE BRITAIN. :D

Yeah, "gotten" is one of several provincialisms that fell out of use in Britain but gained new life in the Americas. It doesn't stop my mother from teasing me about it, though. ;)

(Also, your icon? LOVE.)

Well, I get teased for saying "y'all" (in fact my reading group discussed this today, as the concept of plural "you" doesn't really make much sense to them, and why should it, really) so I totally understand. :D

(Also, my icon? That's the show that convinced me Canada is AWESOME.)

I watched all four seasons for the very first time last year in a ridiculously short period of time. >_> Super awesome. My mother watched it a lot back in the day, and still watches reruns on TV on occasion. I'm told that it's the single most popular source the world's understanding of what Canada is really like.

On the one hand, I LOVE that it really does encourage the polite, nature-loving Canadian shtick, because it really does improve our reputation around the world (also, Fraser is HOT) but on the other hand, making him from the North-West Territories, while really being an integral part of his over-the-top awesomeness, also has totally done nothing to deny the widely-held belief that Canada is nothing but a frozen wasteland. :P Still, SUCH an awesome series!

I personally love that he can speak Inuktitut (and that Diefenbaker can READ HIS LIPS when speaking it!), and, just... gah! I do like that the Americans were given some things to do after a season or so, because it was getting a bit awkward sometimes to watch the smart-Canadian-to-the-dumb-American stereotype all the time. >_> Everyone has their own strengths!

Also, Pee Ess, if you like Paul Gross... have you seen him in Gunless yet? It is a hilarious movie that makes loads of in-jokes about the fact that he once played a mountie. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QK-Md46Exxs (Although unfortunately I couldn't find a trailer without this annoying voice over guy.)

Eeee! How did I not know about that movie?? (Oh... right. America.) Now to find it as cheaply & quickly as possible! LOL

But yeah, great show. My family still quotes it all the time: "Why do I always have to be the fulcrum?" is a particular favorite. :D

IT IS AMAZING. Paul Gross plays an American and there are SO MANY JOKES about him being so. He teases and gets teased by the mounties. Also, historically accurate non-anglo western immigrants! There is the adorable Chinese girl you saw in the trailer (Gross: "Uh... speekee-englishy?" / Girl: "...Do you?") but also this one guy in the possee from Uppsala, Sweden. ;)

I CAN'T PICK JUST ONE FAVOURITE LINE FROM THAT SERIES. D: D: D:

Also, I totally found this amazing person who writes in-character, novel-length (at times) Due South fanfic. They can be found here (be warned, only enter if you actually have free time to spare):

To get a taste of the awesomeness, here is a short one-shot. (Slash, of course):

For a good novel-length one: http://www.trickster.org/speranza/CMWanted.html
(Essentially, through crazy shenanigans, Fraser manages to lose his memory (yes, yes, I know, bear with me) and then, through MORE crazy but COMPLETELY UNDERSTANDABLE misunderstandings, becomes a criminal mastermind. It's amazing. And, against all the odds, COMPLETELY in-character.)

I haven't! My local library doesn't have it, and Amazon is charging $29, which I'm too cheap to pay. I'm still investigating, though - I really do want to see it!

When you do see it, let me know so we can squee about it together! :) It is super-awesome.
