Procrastinating with shiny things

bebootsIn the last few weeks, whenever the stress has gotten to be a bit overwhelming, I shut my books, made a mug of tea, put on a podcast or two, and took out my beadwork.
And holy crap guys, I did a lot of procrastination on my homework. >_> Check this out!
This is a rope necklace made from tiny little glass seed beads. I learned how to do this over the course of the summer at Fort Edmonton, and I even completed three or four necklaces in this style while interpreting to people, but never one this long. I should have measured it before I gave it to my beloved friend Yan (who keeps making me food and being an awesome person!), but it had to have been at least two feet all around, if not more.
Well here, see it for yourselves.

In a pile in my hand. Remember, each of these tiny beads was threaded on one at a time.
Around my neck. Can be worn differently by having one loop hung much lower... reaching almost my belly button.
A few details of the strand, twisted, so that you can fully appreciate the colours and the way the light plays out on the three different textures of the beads.

Wrapped many times around my wrist. The rows continue out of frame on both sides.
To further put things in perspective, each of those lengths of beads that fill the screen above would have taken me just under an hour's work. I estimate that I spent at least twenty hours, total, on this entire thing.
