Verily, it be Talk Like a Pirate Day!

ARRGH. How be it possible that I ne'er realized that it be talk like a pirate day until it be nearly over? D: Again, ARRGH... D:

(As it would be rather difficult to type my entire post in pirate-speak, I shall now continue on in as perfect English as I can make it).

So it's been a few weeks since school started, and I'm still alive! :D My classes are going rather well. Ironically, although I have absolutely no huge papers to write this semester (which makes a nice change from last semester, where I wrote seven, not counting the in-class essays and the two I had to write for a take-home final), I actually believe that I have a higher workload. See, instead of huge papers, I have several, smaller ones. Individually, they shouldn't be too bad - most are between 1,000 words and 1,300 words long. Unfortunately, they have been assigned at nearly the same times. Don't worry, I'm not overwhelmed yet - I've finished the History 260 (Preconfederate Canadian History) assignment already, and it's not due until next Wednesday, and I still have like 800 words left of my 1,000 word Historigraphical analysis that's due Tuesday in the Rise and Fall of the TUdor Regime. I already did the time consuming part: wading through 80 pages of article on Cardinal Wolsey. D: I mean, I find Henry VIII, Bloody Mary, Elizabeth I and the like absolutely fascinating but I just dont... care... about Cardinal Wolsey! I mean, he might be interesting for a few paragraphs, but I think that even reanding about the Black Plague could get tedious if I had to read so much about them... D: The only cool thing was that the second article was totally written to tear the arguments of the other one apart, so... yeah, I got some satisfaction when I read that one. :3

Also, I'm taking French 254 (a fascinating French translation course) and Japanese 201, which both have worksheets practically every evening, and Art History 101, which also has readings after every class. At least they're interesting readings... and even though you could probably bludgeon someone to death with the textbook (which cost like $130, by the way), it's actually a pretty book. It has very nice, large glossy photographs of the art, and it's not too dry to read.

My Canadian History professor in particular is very amusing (the others are as well, especially the Art History prof, but this guy is very funny in particular). He's from the maritimes, and he has the same sort of facial shape and hair colour as Rick Mercer. He's a bit chubbier, and less ranty, but it's otherwise like being taught Canadian History by Rick Mercer. :3 It's awesome.

I share Art History with my beloved Cassidy. :3 It shall be a fun semester. We'll have to study like crazy together for the only two things we are marked on (the midterm, at 40% of our grade, and the final at 60%.) D: I met a design student there on the first day of class, and I thought "hey, this is perfect - with our powers of Design major and History major  combined... >:3 ), but she's apparently dropped the class. ;_; Oh, well, I'll just make do... I mean, I already know much of the historical background, and many of the art terms I've either heard before, or I can guess at because I know French and basic Latin (and italian's like a mix of the two, so I can guess at Italian terms as well... now I just have to memorize the greek words. ;) )

In addition, looking at giant pictures of cave paintings and celtic art have made me want to take up embroidery, and embroider those kind of patterns onto cloth. I really need to start working on my anime costume for next year's cons, because my fingers are itching to create something...

Also, rejoice, for I have converted my friend Ashley to the U of A! :D I've convinced her to apply to do spring classes. :3 Yay for higher education! :D

My friend Maïalen, whom I met in France, is settling into Canada quite well. :3 I've seen her several times, and she assures me she's enjoying herself. :) I'm glad that I met her. Her English is already improving! Also, she's joined an outdoor club, and has officially a more hardcore Canadian camper than I am, after a trip to Jasper last weekend and one to Banff starting tomorrow. ;)

And... I really should stop procastinating and actually do my homework. D:

lol, I don't do my Art History readings until the end of the week. And because the text isn't dry and pictures take up so much space, it really isn't all that much to read! :D

I am so impressed with your p[eople-meeting skills. It's been two weeks, and in 2/5 classes (my 100+ classes) I still don't know anyone, and only you in Art History. *headdesk* My outgoing-ness is practically nil. Meh, whatever. XD

Totally need to go have a shower before Criminal Minds... (<--yes, random.)

I agree! I'm jealous of her people-meeting skills! I only know a few new people by name in Japanese because sensei always makes us do group work and stuff.....and the only person I know in my art history class is my cousin, Dale (who has transferred to Grant Mac with his fiance ^^) *headdesk*

I'm planning on asking some people in my Astro and Ling classes for contact info, in case I have to miss a class or something. Because now it's less likely that the people I get contact info from will drop the class than if I did that on the first day. XD

True, true. The friend that I made in my Canadian History class hasn't shown up the last three days, so I suspect that she's dropped the class, sadly. ;_; Although, she was ill the last time I saw her, so perhaps she's just been really sick this week...? ;_;

Okay, so I heard the whole story. Elly showed up in class today, and there was much rejoicing! :D So apparently last week she was sick from Wednesday until Friday (thus I didn't see her in those two classes), and then on Sunday, her older (pregnant) sister and her sister's two young children were in a car accident. Don't worry, they're fine (except the two year old has a black eye and may be traumatized), but her sister wanted Elly to come with her on monday for the ultrasound (to see if her unborn baby was okay), and that kind of took precedence over pre-canadian history, you know? But apparently everyone's perfectly fine, so that's why Elly has returned to class today. :)

... except that it's not fine that some asshole thinks that he can rush the red/yellow light and total the car of a pregnant woman with young childrnen. D: Asshole.
