That has got to be one of the cheesiest taglines I've ever run across, but the book itself is pretty cool. Before you react to the mention of the Twilight series with hissing and shrieking, I swear that it's a really good series! I maintain my position that it's nowhere near as good as Harry Potter, but the characters are strangely addicting. :)  (Also, I seriously think that Jacob and Edward should just stop fighting over Bella and get together themselves. D: Sometimes, I'm surprised at Bella's denseness - you're dating a vampire and it took you, what, fifteen chapters to figure out that your best friend was a werewolf? Come on! D: )

Anyway, so last night I was at the midnight release for Breaking Dawn at the Chapters in St. Albert. It was pretty cool, mostly because the staff were almost universally rabid Twilight fans, so they really went all-out. I really should have worn my lolita outfit; I would have fit right in. :3 Instead, I wore my awesome boots from Amsterdam and my vest. Oh, and the masquerade mask that I made there. Sparkles and feathers, oh my! There was lots of free stuff, too, which is always a plus: temporary tattoos (plus, an air-brush tattooist), beaded necklaces (which you won if you answered trivia questions), "I was bitten by breaking dawn" pins, stickers, mocktails, cupcakes garnished with actually wearable pastic vampire fangs... oh, and there was a tarot station set up, as well as Wii baseball (because of that one vampire baseball game in the book... yeah, you know we're cool).

Also, I knew a bunch of people who went - some of them I hadn't seen since junior highschool! Also, a few of the cosplayers that I met last summer were a nice plus. :) So, overall? Awesome evening...

You know what was also awesome? Spamalot. :3 I saw it last Tuesday with my friend Leah Nordlund. It was hilarious. I mean, the first half of the first act was essentially faithful to the original "Monty Python and the Holy Grail", but after that, it got... intriguing. :3 I'm glad that they deviated from "canon", as it became more interesting. I wasn't sure how it was going to end! Also, it was a musical, so you know that one king with the son who doesn't want to marry but only sing? ("She's got huge...." *vague hand gestures around chest* "...tracks of land...") Yeah, once he's introduced, he keeps trying to interrupt the songs. XD Also, in the end, Herbert (that singing son) and Lancelot end up getting married. ("Just think, Herbert: in a thousand years, this will still be controversial!") There were many more puns, as well, and the quest changes a bit near the end - the Knights of Ni  asked Arthur to bring them "a Broadway muscial!" And of course, Arthur has no idea where to find one, and becomes discouraged... cue the scene where he sings "I'm all alone" while in the presence of his faithful servant/coconut-weilder Patsy. XD Also, the French Knight taunting scene was relatively unchanged, except for a few more rude gestures. XD Hilarious! I won't give away the ending, but if Spamalot tours throug your cities, guys, seriously, go see it! It's so worth it!

Oh, and the video of the Japan Expo is up! :D (The one I was talking about in previous posts, the one that those awesome British cosplayers were working on while I was hanging out with them.) Here be a link: http://cosplayisland.co.uk/video/japanexpo08 Watch for the Jack Sparrow, the Fujiwara no Sai (me), and so forth. :3

...and it's less than one week to Animethon! :DD

My Sai costume took me far too long to make and is far too epic to NOT wear again. :D I'll be wearing it all three days of the Animethon. Oh, and the cool thing is, Sai is actually in the design of the animethon website! Check out the (badly drawn) banner! http://www.animethon.org/index.php You know, I would love to have a small wooden flute to complete my outfit... But unfortunately, the only wooden flutes that I can find are played vertically like a recorder. D: I could totally have had fun with it, too, because I actually play both the recorder and the orchestral flute! D: Oh, well...

...Have you watch the Holy Grail yet? Awesome, isn't it?

...And I'm still only on page 461 of Breaking Dawn! Must... keep... reading... or risk... being... spoiled...

That's great! The Sai in the banner is really cute. Hmm, that is really unfortunate though, about the not finding a horizontal flute. You've checked all the music stores in the area? I can't think of where you could get one... I suppose you could get pan-pipes and take it apart and cut a hole in one of the reeds for a makeshift flute, but it wouldn't play anything and you'd ruin a set of perfectly nice pan-pipes, so... :/

I've just seen bits and parts of it, like the swallow questions near the end. :D

I read online summaries of it. You're halfway through, so I feel secure in exclaiming about this--she gets PREGNANT? WHAT. And--and--but maybe you haven't got there yet, so--*flails in consternation*

I haven't really checked any music stores (there are none within a less than an hour long bikeride of where I live), but at the Heritage Days festival that I went to, I spotted dozens and dozens of wooden "recorder" flutes. I could probably borrow the car and try the music store across town, but... I'm an inherently lazy person. D:

Still, Animethon is going to rock! :D ... Hey, if you ever want to come to Canada, come during August and swing by Edmonton for the Animethon! :D It would be awesome!

Oh, yes, I've gotten to the pregnant part. Yes, she gets pregnant. With a vampire for a husband. Oh, soap opera... XD

... perhaps you could hack off the recorder mouth-pipe part so it doesn't have that curved up part and looks like a horizontal flute? ^^;

That sounds really fun. :D I will see if I can wangle that during the summers between college.

XDDD And the spine-snapping? The... imprinting? O_O I really want to read Breaking Dawn for the sheer lulz--the posts at fandom_wank are HILARIOUS. XDD

Thank you for the suggestions regarding the flute, but that wouldn't result in a playable instrument. ;_; Still, I had fun regardless! :D

Check this video out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOCgQ5LqwfQ

Fandom_wank? I've actually never heard of them! Link, please?

^^; Granted, my suggestions were pretty awful. >_>

Ohhh, nice room! And well-stock fridge, I can always appreciate food. ;) Which character was that girl cosplaying?

Ohohoho, Fandom Wank makes its appearance! And you can find the Twilight wank here, here, and here... it's just far too entertaining to read. :P

Ashley was dressed as Seras Victoria from Hellsing. (This chick: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seras_Victoria ) She did the "bloody Seras" version, which appears in the latest issue of the manga, where the character goes insane with bloodlust, briefly. Hence, the bloody stockings and gloves.

Thank you for the links! I shall have to check them out, now...)

Oh cool, Seras Victoria looks very interesting. I'm tempted to go look up Hellsing now...

The manga is very good. Be wary, though, of two things: the first Hellsing anime (which was so badly animated that they had to make a newer, nicer one), and the fact that it's really gory. Moreso in the manga than in the anime, but...

Thanks for the warnings. :) I'll just not watch the Hellsing anime (I haven't watched any shows at all lately) and go for the manga. Don't mind gory stuff too much. :) Is it related to vampires and such? I remember the movie Van Helsing had a lot of vampire hunting stuff...

The plot is essentially "big guns, vampires, zombies and nazis", but cooler. :3 It's quite good, though. And I love the way that they draw the vampires.
