Oh man oh man - departure date is coming up quickly! Something inside me is panicking very quietly...

I'm trying not to stress too much about packing. I mean, I'm going to the British Isles, not Uganda; as long as I have my money(cash/debit/credit/whatever), my passport, and my camera (& its charger), I can acquire everything else. So if I forget to pack socks or toiletry-X or whatever, it's not THAT big a deal. I can acquire it with little difficulty. Right? Right. Okay.

Maybe I feel stressed and anxious because a certain Icelandic volcano has shot my confidence in the airline system. I mean, I was AROUND for the September 11th attacks. I lived in Kingston, which houses a sizable Canadian military base just north of New York State, so there were several days of panicked "OMG WE COULD BE NEXT!!!" which may have been puffing up our own self-importance, but maybe not... Canadians are like Americans in disguise, amirite? :P Anyway, but I was in grade SEVEN at the time, and I hardly ever flew anywhere except in the summertime, and school had just started, so I wasn't affected like, at all, by the groundings and panic about planes and so on.

Now, though? This is too close for comfort. Before April, I lived in a world in which I'd book a flight, and I'd fly out on the date that was on my ticket. Maybe there'd be a few hours delay, especially in the wintertime with snowstorms, but the point is? Only rarely were flights outright cancelled, in my world.

Now, I'm not so sure. I gave up an amazing summer job to go on this trip. I will actually cry if it gets cancelled or delayed in any way. I don't think I'll completely relax until I'm at my hostel in Dublin, meeting my friends. Until then? Stress! D:

I wish you all the best on your trip! Yeah, I remember the days following 9/11. No one would ever fault you for sudden paranoia. I remember driving through Reno with my friends on a college-road trip a month afterwards and refusing flat-out to stay in a high-rise hotel next to the airport. Like, in hindsight who the heck would run a plane into the Reno Hilton? But back then, it seemed really likely. haha.

Anyway, I found this article on CNN which may help calm your fears about the volcano. http://www.cnn.com/2010/TRAVEL/05/24/volcanic.ash.cloud.dormant/index.html?hpt=Sbin

Thank you very much for the link! That may have quashed some of my uncertainty. :) I do appreciate it.

A friend of mine who is studying Swedish and Finnish has thrown around the idea of us two going on a Northern European trip - she'll show me around the Scandinavian countries, and I'll show her around Northern France, Belgium and Holland. ;) So in a few summers, that may be an offer I'll take you up on!

On the same note, if you ever want to visit Quebec, Ontario, the Rocky Mountains, or British Columbia, you know who to call! :D (We have gorgeous and ridiculous amounts of nature over here!)

Man, it's expensive to travel to the Territories, even for Canadians... >_> But it's cool up there! If you don't want to venture TOO far North, but still want to get that experience, think about visiting Churchill, Manitoba: famous for its polar bear tours. Check it:

You apparently go in these giant buggy things and take photos of the bears. It's on my "to do" list for life. :)

But yeah, we have pretty good skiing out West, and the Rockies are especially good for watching wild animals like Big Horn Sheep, Elk, and such. :) (I'm proud of my country, can you tell? :D )

No less than I am of mine! ^^

I suspected that, I know that traveling in lapland is expensive so...I'll go there when I have more money. I love northern nature.

I love winter, but hate skiing and almost all winter sports. ^^ That polarbear tour sounds awesome!

I suspect that the polar bear tours involve no exercise (not even fleeing from the bears! The vehicle does that for you! ;) ).

Northern nature is gorgeous, if you can stand the cold (I can).
