Crossover Craziness!

 MOAR RECOMMENDATIONS, YOU SAY?

I'm sure that if anybody knows my tastes well, they'll know that I absolutely love well-written crossovers. As such, I thought I'd link you guys to the best stuff I've run across thus far... and that I can think of off the top of my head and can dig up easily enough. (Thank you so much, Delicious, for continuing to exist...) Many of these are oldies but goodies. :)

I've noticed that a disproportionate amount are Harry Potter crossovers... but JKR created such a lovely sandbox, so it should be no surprise that everyone wants to play in it! ;) There are also lots of Good Omens crossovers on this list, but in my defense, Good Omens is an amazing book, and it engenders some amazing fanfic.

Avatar: The Last Airbender X Harry Potter
Duality by [livejournal.com profile] avocado_love
An accident with two linked Vanishing Cabinets transports Draco Malfoy and Prince Zuko into a place between their two worlds. To escape they need to work together, and it may turn out that the two aren't very different after all.
I absolutely love this piece. It's very character driven, because the plot essentially amounts to "throw Malfoy and Zuko into a small space together and see what happens"... and what happens is AWESOME. It's one of the best crossovers I've ever read for keeping characters from both fandoms extremely in-character. It also has a multi-chaptered sequel, which is always a plus.

Avatar: The Last Airbender X Stargate SG1
Rampage by [livejournal.com profile] avocado_love
There isn't a facility on any planet that can hold the Fire Prince and the World's Greatest Earthbender.
I've never even seen Stargate and I love this fic. Read for Toph and Zuko badassery. Also has sequel.

Buffy: The Vampire Slayer X Good Omens
California Dreaming by [livejournal.com profile] daegaer
Crowley takes a business trip to America, and runs across Buffy et al. Aziraphale must rescue him from being purified.

CSI X Good Omens
Ophidian Evidence by Macx
The CSI team is called to a crime scene (breaking & entering) to find... a giant snake.

CSI X Harry Potter
In Vegas and In Trouble by Sophie3
Harry Potter finds himself in trouble when the Las Vegas CSI show up and he has a dead body in his bedroom. The one time he needs the Ministry to butt into his business, and they’re suspiciously absent. Now, how is he going to explain this one?
An oldie but goodie. Involves Harry trying to deal with the police as a muggle while suspicious things like Hedwig and a dead Death Eater on his apartment's floor hang about.

Dogma X Good Omens
Angels, angels everywhere (Home is Where the Heart Is) by [livejournal.com profile] daegaer
“Shit, man,” the young man said. “You’re a fucking angel.”
“Oh dear,” Aziraphale said. “So are you.”

Fullmetal Alchemst X Harry Potter
Cerulean Silver vs Amber Gold by hikaranko
Edward Elric has been put on his stupidest assignment yet: babysitting. Everyone else calls it undercover work. To Ed, it's babysitting. But there's more to this assignment than what's on file...
There are quite a few half-decent HP X FMA crossovers out there. This is one of the better ones. I was always a sucker for an Edward Elric who actually follows military protocol. Sometimes.

Good Omens X Harry Potter X Buffy: The Vampire Slayer
The Comfort of Old and New by [livejournal.com profile] violet_quill (may be friends-locked)
After Buffy's death, Giles returns to England, where he visits an old friend's bookshop. While he's there, he meets someone else who has also suffered a recent loss.
I love the idea of Aziraphale just... KNOWING people.

Good Omens X Harry Potter X House, M.D.
Battle of the Vexes by [livejournal.com profile] violet_quill (may be friends-locked, but I can't remember)
A wizard, a demon, and a doctor walk into a bar...
( So here we have three men, each of whom thinks that he is far more intelligent than the other two. )
It's Snape, Crowley, and House, together. SNARK ENSUES.

Good Omens X James Bond
Falling Without a Parachute by [livejournal.com profile] musegaarid
James Bond is having a hell of a time in his most controversial adventure.
Essentially, James Bond meets Crowley, in the 1950s. It is AMAZING because Bond just doesn't quite GET Crowley, who is, of course, a demon.

Good Omens X Sherlock (BBC)
Getting Away With Murder by [livejournal.com profile] irisbleufic
Mycroft makes John and Sherlock an offer they're too bored to refuse.

The Nice Young Man Upstairs by [livejournal.com profile] irisbleufic
Sherlock and John investigate a murder in the flat below Crowley's.

[livejournal.com profile] irisbleufic just has such a wonderful grasp on the characters, combined with a lovely writing style.

Good Omens X Supernatural
When Summoning, Please Watch the Wording by Ryuuza Kochou
Dean and Sam fall into the hands of Satanists, who, naturally, want to use Sam as the vessel for the Golden Eyed Demon. Well...they do get A Certain Golden Eyed Demon. And an avenging Angel. And a serious posterior whooping.
(Because Crowley isn't all that bad, really.)

Iron Man X X-Men
What Happens in Vegas... by [livejournal.com profile] cruelest_month
Tony accidentally gets married to Logan (Wolverine) in Vegas. After learning all the reasons he can't divorce him from Pepper, Tony has to learn to deal with wedding presents, well-wishes for the Avengers and X-men, and sentimental sound effects.
Sounds like crack, but isn't.

Hetalia X V for Vendetta
Remember, Remember by AppleCiderVinegar
The fifth of November, the gunpowder treason and plot... “I’d watch that mouth of yours, Mr. Kirkland,” Creedy remarked. “It’s liable to get you into a real mess one of these days, you know.”

Howl's Moving Castle X Harry Potter

The Mission of a Lifetime by Moonlite Night
When Howl snuck out of his castle that day, he was expecting a day free from the bothersome duties of a loving husband and doting father. He was not expecting to be roped into a war. He should really stop expecting things.
Howl is just so... Howl! Arrogant, vain and badass. The Order has a right to be suspicious.

Inuyasha X Harry Potter
Of Great Turmoil and Excess Stupidity by Seaouryou
In his quest to teach his students about foreign magical creatures, Hagrid has a demon shipped over from Japan. A poisonous, arrogant, illtempered one. Hilarity and mass murder ensue.
This fic doesn't take itself seriously... and is hilarious as a result.

Naruto X Harry Potter
Itachi and the Prisoner of Azkaban by Mistress DragonFlame
Just before that fateful time where Itachi slaughters his clan, he receives a mission to guard one Harry Potter for a single year. How much can change for Itachi, Harry, and the History of both worlds, in just one year?
This is one of those crossovers that I just LOVE. Yes, it starts off with the third year at Hogwarts... but the introduction of Itachi (being awesome) does not mean that the plot happens in exactly the same way with a few extra lines thrown in here and there. STUFF HAPPENS. Awesome stuff. It also has a sequel, which is ongoing... in which Itachi is a Hogwarts professor... of a completely unexpected subject.

Stranded by Gigabomb
... a bunch of random Naruto characters stuck in the HP-verse via a crack theory on the Sharingan.
Joke summary, seriously good fic. These Konoha nin form their own secret society and hire themselves out as ninjas when they find themselves trapped for good in the Harry Potter world.

Temeraire X Harry Potter
Flying Again by esama
Harry learns languages and philosophy and mathematics and misses something important, while elsewhere Charlie thinks of pearls and foolish dreams and is unable to find the right dragon.
Rebirth fic. Absolutely adorable.

Little After Dark by esama
Terrible things happen to those that meddle with time, but sometimes it was worth it. Meddling with the affairs of dragons, though, that was a different thing. AU with some OOCness, swearing and a Creature!Harry.
Much better than it sounds. Once Dragon!Harry and the girls get to the Temeraire world... <3

Tsubasa Chronicle X Star Trek: Deep Space 9
What Came Through the Wormhole by Ontogenesis
The TRC gang suddenly appears on the station, much to the shock of the DS9 crew. How will they manage to find Sakura's feather while under suspicion?
I'm surprised that Tsubasa doesn't have more amazing crossovers. I mean, the entire premise of the series is a series of world-hopping crossovers. SO MUCH POTENTIAL.

WALL-E X Toy Story
On the Shelf by Miss Becky
WALL-E isn't as alone as he thinks he is. Someone is watching.
Super cute, and yet also sad at the same time. I sniffled when I read it the first time.

One of the best crossover videos I've ever seen. Another oldie but goodie: Cowboy Bebop X Trigun. Hey, one show is about a bunch of bounty hunters in space. The other's about a guy on a planet in the future with a giant bounty on his head. THEY MUST MEET.

And of course, I can't mention awesome crossovers (let alone awesome crossover videos) without at least mentioning the Buffy vs Edward video (Buffy: The Vampire Slayer X Twilight).

I'm thinking I'll do a timetravel fic recommendation list as well one of these days. And a good alternate universe list, too.

[identity profile] t-lyrical.livejournal.com 2011-01-19 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
ooh maaaaaan. Thank you so much for posting these recs! The Wall-E/Toy Story one caught my attention right away. IT IS SO SAD. I CAN'T EVEN. ;___;

[identity profile] avocado-love.livejournal.com 2011-01-19 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
!!!!!!!!

Thank you for posting these (and reccing me! Eeee!!) I'll have you know that now I have a whole lotta fic to read through tomorrow. :D Crossovers are my most favorite brand of crack as well.

(Quick note: Rampage is set in Stargate: SG1. Stargate Atlantis is another series set in the same universe.)

Like t_lyrical, the Wall-E/Toy Story fic caught my attention real fast. People can be so creative with these crossovers, I swear. *Scurries off to read*

[identity profile] beboots.livejournal.com 2011-01-19 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I had to rec you! <3 Your fics are amazing and more people should know about and love them! (I will definitely fix that Stargate thing - again, I totally don't know the show. You're the one who's convincing me to watch it, when you write such awesome fic in that universe...)

[identity profile] boko.livejournal.com 2011-01-20 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
lol shoot. I haven't seen tainted donuts in a while ^^ And thank you for the humongous Good Omens crossover recs!

[identity profile] dayadhvam-triad.livejournal.com 2011-01-20 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks for the recs! hee, I recognize some of these. That James Bond/Good Omens one is pretty ace. :D

[identity profile] beboots.livejournal.com 2011-01-20 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
I totally agree. <3 Good Omens has such potential for crossover-ness, too! :)

[identity profile] feral-shrew.livejournal.com 2011-01-20 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
I really don't have time for this, but... they're so tempting and shiny and I already opened four links just as a start.

Long shot, but I've been trying to find this fic again for a year now. Have you ever read the crossover where House meets Wolverine? The first is a one-shot, Logan's acting as a courier, and they go fishing. In the second story, some Wolverine antics are required and House figures a few things out, and the writing is awesome but no search engine has been at all helpful.

[identity profile] beboots.livejournal.com 2011-01-20 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
I... have never heard of this fic BUT I WANT TO READ IT SO BADLY NOW.

[identity profile] feral-shrew.livejournal.com 2011-01-20 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
I did find http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3927264/1/Death_of_the_Heart which is pretty damn medically accurate from what I know, but it's not the fic.

Hank sent Logan as a courier because he knew that Wolvie and House would get along, and later Logan and House are on vacation and there's some mumbling about a New Jersey Devil, and Logan saves an entire houseful of people and.... I don't even remember titles, I just can't find it, but it was SO GOOD.

[identity profile] beboots.livejournal.com 2011-01-20 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
Keep searching! If you have any luck, let me know! :D

[identity profile] feral-shrew.livejournal.com 2011-01-20 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
I still can't find it. The closest I came was somebody that was talking about the story and couldn't find it again.

It wasn't on ff.net or livejournal. I think the author had a private site with nobody else's fic hosted, but that and a vaguely cream/yellow background are all that I really remember. I look for it periodically just in case, the New Jersey Devil plotline was awesome. Baddies took over this little bed-and-bath out in the country, they had guns, Wolverine takes care of that while House does the medical detail... I can picture most of it, but the details were completely worth a second read.

I did have the page bookmarked, but my computer's hard drive blew up and I didn't find it again. The other person mentioned reading it in 2006, so it might not even be online anymore.

[identity profile] beboots.livejournal.com 2011-01-20 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
Sad face! That's one of the reasons why I'm so grateful to websites like fanfiction.net and livejournal, because they're unlikely to suddenly go offline anytime soon... I tend to save fics from private websites if they're particularly awesome, but once I remember reading this amazing fanfic and THE VERY DAY I WENT TO GO SAVE IT the author took down all of their works. :(

[identity profile] feral-shrew.livejournal.com 2011-01-20 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
I thought one author's site was really stable, but now she just offers downloads for Kindle/other platforms. Her entire website is gone, and my favorite stories were the ones that ff.net wouldn't have liked. (When she wrote sex, it was there because leaving it out would have been insane. It helped that it generally happened after a WHOLE lot of story, and in a few characters she wrote having sex at all was a gigantic milestone. Minisinoo in the X-men fandom with the amazing stories)

If I ever manage to find this story again, I am saving a copy to two hard drives to make sure I can read it again.

[identity profile] beboots.livejournal.com 2011-01-20 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
(and send me a copy too)

My favourite sex scenes always happen much later in the story. Having two characters jump into bed together simply because the author thinks they should is a bad way to go about it: I like character development. That's why I really liked this one Inuyasha fic (Tales of the House of the Moon) because it was the first believable Kagome/Sesshoumaru fic I'd ever read. I mean, it takes them at least a dozen long chapters to even trust each other, and I don't think that they even kiss until like chapter 40. Other, plot-related things have to happen first. ;)

[identity profile] feral-shrew.livejournal.com 2011-01-20 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
My favorite stories used sex as a giant insight into the character. An ex-prostitute has had a very long, very slow romance with another character, and the author never glosses over "this is really hard and survival sex leaves permanent effects on people." There are problems, it's not instantly a porn movie, but when they work out their issues (requiring a very loud screaming match)... the reader's been waiting for so long that you're thrilled for both of the characters.

One of my favorite examples for a slow romance is Fire Rose by Mercedes Lackey. The two characters don't see each other face-to-face for a LONG time, and I don't think they touch until page 250. (It's Beauty and the Beast. "Beast" had meant to use Beauty for research, and sets things up so that she has no leverage against him at all, but gradually he comes to really respect her. A bit after that, the romance starts up.)

If people are going to do sex-in-under-20,000 words... I've only seen it work with comedy, and even then it takes a lot of work. Most people just can't write sex and need to realize this. It turns into WAY too many alternative names for genitalia ("dewy flower" was the worst offender I allow myself to remember), lots and lots of rather odd descriptions of sounds and positioning, and then the sex itself turns into Tab A and Slot B. Ooh, sexy. The other usual style is extremely clinical and distanced.

So far, I haven't had many stories where I even need to imply sex. I like working with series written for children, generally, and want to write Young Adult/YA. There's not generally a call for anything past getting a shirt off.

[identity profile] beboots.livejournal.com 2011-01-20 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh god dewy flower... D:

"So far, I haven't had many stories where I even need to imply sex. I like working with series written for children, generally, and want to write Young Adult/YA. There's not generally a call for anything past getting a shirt off." It depends on the series, of course, but I get your point. ;)
